The museum provides an excellent introduction to the city for visitors, with permanent exhibitions covering topics from Sherlock Holmes to football, alongside a changing events and temporary exhibition programme. The museum is also home to a new Visitor Information point, where visitors can find out about the city’s wider cultural offerings as well as book accommodation and tickets to the city’s other cultural venues and attractions.

There’s also a cafe for refreshments, and large, formal, south-facing gardens for a leisurely stroll, home to events throughout the summer season.
